Panoramavegen
An easy escape with the best view

The path of Panoramavegen is mostly gravel
Panoramavegen is one of the many ways to escape the noise occasionally. Many locals and students love the path in the midst of a coniferous forest. But it hasn't been around that long – the inhabitants of Volda have a flood-protection project to thank for the panoramic path high above the rooftops of the city. The flood project in Volda is working on keeping three big rivers from flooding over the city centre of Volda. These rivers are Gjøleelva, Orgyelva and Heltneelva. They have a long history of floods. Step one of the project was to construct a flood prevention channel between Orgylelva and Heltneelva. This channel removes floodwater from Orgyelva, and was a requirement to be able to use Volda campus arena and the new media building, the Sivert Aarflot building, at the university as intended.
The project has given Volda plenty of wonderful new hiking trails, and the road across the channel is called Panoramavegen. The hike up is short and steep, but available for almost everybody because of the gravel roads going up the hill. It can also be reached by foot from Høgskulen: It takes a brisk 20-minute walk to reach the starting point of the ascent, then another 20 minutes to reach the Panoramavegen top.
From Panoramavegen you can easily hike further up to peaks like Melshornet and Vardehornet. You can even hike all the way to Ørsta.
